Shariful Sheikh, who was arrested today, was reportedly among the 25 accused named in the complaints registered in the police station, police sources said. This is the fifth arrest made by the police. Four other persons have been arrested earlier in connection with the case.
West Bengal Police in its X Handle, posted yesterday, “In incident of explosion at Molandi, Borochandghar under Kaliganj police station area, which led to death of a minor girl, 4 prime accused persons were arrested yesterday- Adar Sk, Manowar Sk, Kalu Sk and Anwar Sk. Kaliganj PS Case No. 534/25 dt 23.06.25 u/s 191(2)/191(3)/190/118(2)/109/305/103 BNS & 3/4 ES Act is registered. Investigation and legal proceedings are underway.”
Tamanna Khatun (13) was allegedly killed after getting hit by splinters of a bomb that was hurled during a victory procession brought out on Monday by the ruling Trinamool Congress to celebrate the victory of the party candidate Alifa Ahmed in Kaliganj bypolls.
“We have no faith in the probe by the state police. We want justice for our deceased daughter,” said the victim’s father said. However, the deceased girl’s mother claimed that her daughter was attacked by the ruling Trinamool Congress as their family were CPI-M supporters.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the National Commission for Women (NCW) took suo motu cognizance in the case. The Commission had sought answers to the queries within 72 hours from the time of sending the communiqué on this count to the district police authorities. NCW questioned whether the district police made adequate security arrangements over the victory procession of the Trinamool Congress on Monday and whether there was any intelligence input over possible violence.
