New Delhi: In a clear articulation of governance priorities, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a marathon meeting of the Council of Ministers, underlining that the state must avoid unnecessary interference in citizens' lives while stepping in decisively wherever support is required.

The meeting set the tone for the government's next phase, with a strong focus on faster execution, ease of living and people-centric reforms. Sources said the emphasis was on simplifying processes, improving service delivery and making governance more responsive and outcome-oriented.

Reiterating the vision of a developed India, Modi said 'Viksit Bharat 2047' is not just a slogan but a national commitment. Having completed over a decade in office, the PM stressed that 2026 should shift towards next-generation reforms aimed at preparedness rather than achievements.


A key thrust was placed on administrative efficiency, with the PM calling for faster disposal of files to improve accountability and speed up decision-making. Secretaries from nine key ministries, including agriculture, road transport, environment and labour, made detailed presentations on reforms and delivery frameworks.

The Cabinet Secretary also made a presentation while NITI Aayog vice chairman Rajiv Gauba outlined a roadmap for citizen-centric reforms focused at simplifying governance and improving outcomes. The ministries that disposed of files at the fastest pace were also highlighted.

Adding an energy and sustainability dimension, the PM also emphasised scaling up biogas production, with a focus on enhancing capacity and ensuring wider availability, signalling continued push towards clean energy and rural economic integration.

External affairs minister S Jaishankar briefed the council on the PM's recent visits, highlighting India's expanding global engagement and strategic partnerships.

The overarching message was unequivocal: Governance must be lean, efficient and future-ready, driven by reforms that make everyday life easier while ensuring the state remains a dependable enabler wherever it matters most, a source present at the meeting said.
