Officials said locals alleged that armed militants were involved in the attack. "Naga village volunteers defended their village for several hours when the firing took place. Two suspected militants were seriously injured." Central security forces assisted in dousing the fire, the official said.
On Tuesday, two women were shot dead in neighbouring Tamenglong district. According to the police, Chonga Sitlhou and Kimboi Singson were killed while working in their jhum fields at Leisang Kuki Village.
Manipur chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said the prolonged conflict in the state resulted in a decline of more than ₹1,200 crore in goods and services tax (GST) revenue from 2023 to 2026, putting considerable pressure on the state's economy.
