The Narcotics Control Bureau on Monday informed the Bombay High Court that the Ministry of Home Affairs had approved a probe against Indian Revenue Service officer Sameer Wankhede under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Wankhede, the erstwhile Mumbai head of NCB, and two other former NCB officers among others have been booked for allegedly demanding ₹25 crore from Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan for 'not framing' his son Aryan in Cordelia cruise 'drug bust' case.

"As per CBI, the perusal of the report of enquiry prima facie discloses the commission of criminal offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act... This is the first time that NCB came to know that CBI was in process of commencing criminal action against Wankhede and accordingly asked NCB to submit prior approval under 17A of the Act," the reply seen by ET says.

Meanwhile, HC's vacation bench extended till June 8 the interim protection granted to Wankhede in the case.
