Delhi Metro has temporarily shut down Yamuna bank metro station and reduced speed of metro trains on four Yamuna bridges amid rising water levels in the river.

DMRC said that as a precautionary measure metro trains are crossing the four Yamuna bridges with a restricted speed of 30 kmph due to rising water level of the Yamuna. The swollen river has crossed the danger mark, breaching the all-time record of 1978, flooding low-lying areas near the banks.

At 10 am on Thursday, the water level in Yamuna was at 208.53 metres.

"Due to rising water levels of the Yamuna, trains are passing through all the four Metro bridges on the river with a restricted speed of 30 kmph as a precautionary measure. Normal services on all corridors," the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) tweeted.

DMRC officials are "closely monitoring" the metro bridges over the Yamuna amid rising water level of the river, PTI reported.

"Due to the escalating water levels of the Yamuna River, the approach road leading to Yamuna Bank Metro Station is currently inaccessible. Kindly plan your journey accordingly and consider alternate routes. However, interchange facility is available," the DMRC said in a tweet today.

Rising water levels in Yamuna has also affected vehicular movement in several roads in the national capital.

"Due to rise in water level of Yamuna river, traffic on Pusta road from Shamshaan Ghat, Geeta Colony to Old Iron bridge, Gandhi Nagar has been diverted towards Raja Ram Kohli Marg or Master Plan road to reach Swami Dayanand Marg and then to GT, Road Shahdara," Delhi traffic police tweeted a while ago.

The Delhi traffic police has also advised commuters to plan their journey accordingly as the traffic coming from Shahdara on GT road towards ISBT, Kashmere Gate has been diverted from Seelampur T-point via Keshav Chowk - Karkardooma Court - Road No. 57- NH-24.

"Movement of traffic is restricted in both the carriageways from ISBT towards Majnu Ka Tila and vice-versa due to rise in Yamuna river water. Kindly avoid theses stretches," it said in another tweet.
