Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar made this announcement after inspecting the 19-km line in preparation for its grand launch. The much-anticipated Yellow Line connects key tech and industrial hubs along congested Hosur Road, including Electronic City and Bommasandra. Shivakumar stated on X that the service is expected to benefit about eight lakh commuters daily while easing traffic congestion at critical junctions like Silk Board.
While metro inauguration plans remain unchanged, the Prime Minister's Office has yet to officially release Modi's schedule, according to BJP sources.
Constructed at a cost of ₹5,057 crore, the Yellow Line promises to reduce commute times by up to 60% along the heavily trafficked Silk Board-Outer Ring Road (ORR) corridor. The line will particularly benefit South Bengaluru residents working at numerous companies lining Hosur Road, including the major 902-acre Electronic City tech hub that hosts over 300 companies such as Infosys, TCS, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, and Siemens.
During the event, the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for Bengaluru Metro Phase 3 (Orange Line), a 44.65-km expansion project costing ₹15,611 crore. Approved within the Modi government's first 100 days of its current term, this two-phase project will add 31 stations to the metro network. Scheduled for completion by 2029, the Orange Line will connect Magadi Road to ORR, serving numerous Fortune 500 companies and global capability centers in its path.
