Mesmerising! Uttarakhand receives its first snowfall of the season

Uttarakhand saw winter conditions on Monday as high-altitude parts received new snowfall and rain pounded other lower locations. Fresh snowfall was received in the high hill regions of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, Yamunotri, Auli, and Munsiyari. While this was happening, rain lashed Dehradun and other regions of the state.

The Dehradun Meteorological Center had predicted rain and hailstorm along with thunder and lightning in most of the districts of the state on Monday. Snow has covered the Kala Pani and Om mountains. Due to continuous rain and snowfall, frost has also increased in the area.

The snowfall resulted in a significant dip in the temperature. However, a record number of pilgrims are arriving for the Char-Dham Yatra this year. After the snowfall, 2 inches of white snow spread in Badrinath Dham. Due to continuous snowfall, the mercury in the area has dropped below zero.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued the possibility of light rain at a few places in the hills of Uttarakhand. The department forecasted snowfall in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts.

The doors of Shri Gangotri Dham will be closed for the winter season on November 14, an official statement issued by the Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee said. On the occasion of Annakoot also known as Govardhan Puja, the doors of Shri Gangotri Dham will be closed for the winter season. According to the Shri Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee, Shri Yamunotri Dham will be closed for winter on November 15.
