Meghalaya government asks shops, cabs to display 'vaccinated' sign

Shops and cabs in Meghalaya have been asked to indicate if people managing them have been vaccinated. The strange order is meant to overcome the setback to vaccination drive following the Meghalaya high court verdict on Thursday that coercive methods of vaccination violated Fundamental Rights.

"All shops, establishments, local taxis, auto-rickshaws, maxi cabs and buses should display prominently at a conspicuous place a sign clearly indicating 'Vaccinated', in the event that all employees and staff of the concerned shop / establishment are vaccinated. Similar signs are to be displayed in the case of local taxis, auto-rickshaws, maxi cabs and buses where the concerned driver or conductor or helper(s) are vaccinated," said an order signed by East Khasi Hills district deputy commissioner Isawanda Laloo on Friday.

The order further said those managing establishments and vehicles who have not been vaccinated should undergo test to ensure they were not infected by Covid-19, apart from carrying a 'Not Vaccinated' sign. The signs should be clear and distinct. Hawkers and street vendor may carry a badge in lieu of a sign.
