Guwahati:Meghalaya assembly has started using Artificial Intelligence (AI) transcribe the proceedings of the Meghalaya assembly.

Meghalaya Assembly Commissioner & Secretary Andrew Simons said on Thursday that assembly Speaker Thomas A Sangma has taken the personal initiative to utilise AI for better performance to transcribe the proceedings of the house.

The Chief Reporter of the assembly secretariat Arnica Lyngdoh in coordination with other technical personnel spearheaded the initiative to revolutionize the reporting process within the assembly for enhancing efficiency and accuracy.


The collaboration between the Reporter's Branch and the IT Cell has yielded remarkable results.

The implementation of Al as a tool in the Reporter's Branch is expected to significantly expedite the reporting process, reduce errors, and provide legislators with more timely and accurate information, Simons said.

He claimed that it stands as a testament to Meghalaya's dedication to embracing technological advancements for the betterment of its legislative functions.

Meghalaya Legislative Assembly's innovative use of AI in legislative reporting is setting a commendable example for other Assemblies to follow in the digital age, the official said.

Utilisation of AI in the legislative process is a part of the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) project.
