Leah and Maya Tata, daughters of Tata Trusts chairman Noel Tata, have been inducted on the board of trustees of the Sir Ratan Tata Industrial Institute (SRTII), a subset of Sir Ratan Tata Trust, one of the two principal shareholders of the group holding company Tata Sons.

Maya and Leah Tata replaced Arnaz Kotwal and Freddy Talati, who have stepped down as trustees of SRTII. With this, Noel Tata's children are present on the boards of all the smaller Tata Trusts, while they are yet to be inducted on the two main ones-Sir Ratan Tata Trust and Allied Trusts, and Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and Allied Trusts.


Who are Leah and Maya Tata?

Both Leah and Maya are the next generation of the Tata family, along with their brother Neville. Noel Tata, who took over as the chairman of Tata Trusts following Ratan Tata's death in October last year, is their father. Noel also serves on the board of Tata Sons, the conglomerate’s holding company.


Leah is 39 years old and is the eldest of the three siblings. She is is currently the Vice President at Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), the Tata Group’s hospitality arm. She handles the Gateway Hotels brand. Leah holds a master’s degree in marketing from IE Business School in Spain. She began involving in the Tata Group in 2006 as an Assistant Sales Manager at Taj Hotels. She briefly interned with Louis Vuitton in 2010 but has primarily focused on expanding the group’s hotel operations.


Maya Tata, 36, is a graduate of Bayes Business School and Warwick University in the UK. She started at Tata Opportunities Fund, a part of Tata Capital, specialising in portfolio management and investor relations. Currently, she is with Tata Digital and had played a significant role in launching the Tata Neu app.

Both sisters are trustees of the Tata Medical Centre Trust, which runs a cancer hospital in Kolkata.
