Meet IPS officer Sanjay Arora, the new Commissioner of Delhi Police

Sanjay Arora appointed as new Delhi Police Commissioner, to succeed Rakesh Asthana
Sanjay Arora on Monday took charge as the new Commissioner of Delhi Police. He was appointed by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday. Here's all you need to know about him.
- Sanjay Arora is a 1988-batch Tamil Nadu cadre IPS officer
- Arora, 57, is the second successive non-AGMUT cadre IPS officer to head the Delhi Police and the third since the Delhi Police Act was passed in 1978 and a commissionerate was established.
- He had served as the Director General of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police.
- Sanjay Arora was once part of the Tamil Nadu Police's special task force which later hunted down forest brigand Veerappan. Sanjay Arora was awarded the chief minister's gallantry medal for bravery during this stint.
- Officials said Arora had played an important role in forming the Special Security Group (SSG) to provide security to the chief minister of Tamil Nadu during the heyday of the LTTE.
- He served as Coimbatore police commissioner between 2002 and 2004.
- Arora is due for retirement in 2025.
- He holds a B.Tech degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
