Meerut: Teenager arrested for murdering friend with a hammer over blackmailing girlfriend

A 16-year-old boy from Meerut has been arrested for allegedly killing his 17-year-old friend with a hammer after the victim reportedly blackmailed his girlfriend with private photographs. The incident took place on Sunday, and the teenager, the son of a retired Armyman, is currently in juvenile custody.

According to the police, the accused and the victim were close friends and classmates. However, the relationship soured when the 17-year-old gained access to the accused's phone and transferred private images of his girlfriend. He then began mocking the accused, which escalated when the victim started blackmailing the girlfriend and demanded to meet her alone in a secluded location.

SP Ayush Vikram Singh confirmed that the accused became angry after his friend blackmailed the girl. "The girl narrated her ordeal to her boyfriend, and he wanted to teach his friend a lesson. We're also investigating the girl's role in the crime," Singh said.

The Incident

On Saturday afternoon, the two teenagers told their families they were heading for tuition classes. Instead, they purchased alcohol and traveled about 10 km to a remote spot using the victim's scooter. It is alleged that the 16-year-old killed his friend there and quietly returned home.

The victim's family grew concerned when he didn’t return and later discovered there were no tuition classes that day. Upon contacting the accused, he denied meeting the victim. The family then approached the police.

Investigation and Arrest

CCTV footage showing the two boys together led to the arrest of the accused, who confessed to the crime. The victim's body, which had severe head injuries, was sent for an autopsy. The police have registered a murder case under Section 103 of the BNS Act, and the accused has been placed in a juvenile home while the investigation continues.
