MEA monitoring situation in Kabul after attack on Gurdwara

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is closely monitoring the situation in Kabul and showed concern about the blast in Gurdwara ‘Dashmesh Pita Sahib Ji’ on Saturday.

“We are deeply concerned about the reports emanating from Kabul about an attack on a sacred Gurudwara in that city.”

Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi said that they waiting for further details and closely monitoring the situation in Afghanistan.



The statement came after two consecutive blasts ripped through a busy road near the Gurdwara in Kabul around 7.15 am in Kabul (8.30 am India time).

Security forces have sealed the area for precautionary measures. The blasts sent a column of thick smoke into the sky and triggered panic among residents of the capital city.

Initial inputs suggest that an explosion took place outside the gate of the Gurdwara. Three people have come out of the blast and two of them are sent to the hospital, reported ANI.

However, Ahmad, a security guard of Gurdwara has been killed as confirmed by Afghan local news agencies.

In this whole incident, three Taliban soldiers were wounded while two attackers were cornered by Taliban soldiers.

“Seven to eight people are still believed to be trapped inside but numbers are not confirmed,” said Manjinder Singh Sirsa, BJP

Afghan Hindus and Sikhs were present in the Gurudwara for morning prayers and as the attackers entered the premises, 10-15 managed to flee the premises the rest are trapped inside or feared to be dead. Reported ANI

The entire premises of Gurdwara Dashmesh Pita Sahib Ji, Karte Parwan, Kabul is set on fire. Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji and the main darbar hall of the gurdwara are feared to be part of the explosion.

Afterward, 2 explosions took place inside the complex, & some shops attached to Gurdwara caught fire.

Sikh Sangat is believed to be stuck in Gurdwara Karte Parwan in Kabul which was attacked by terrorists this morning.
