Thousands are crowding the Kabul airport for a week now in an attempt to flee the country. India has been stepping up its efforts to evacuate its citizens as hostilities are rising.

MEA calls India's evacuation mission from Afghanistan named 'Operation Devi Shakti'
India's mission to evacuate its citizens from Afghanistan after the Taliban coming to power as been named 'Operation Devi Shakti'. On Tuesday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar tweeted in reference to the arrival of 78 more evacuees.


On August 16, India started evacuating its citizens after the Taliban took control of Kabul, Afghanistan's capital. So far, 800 people have been airlifted as the situation worsens each day. Thousands are crowding the Kabul airport for a week now in an attempt to flee the country. India has been stepping up its efforts to evacuate its citizens as hostilities are rising.


Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 17 directed the Cabinet Committee on Security to ensure evacuation of all Indians from Afghanistan. India will also provide refuge to Afghan Sikhs and Hindus who are seeking safe haven.
