Massive fire engulfs textile factory in Surat
The fire erupted around 10 am at the Gopi Knitting textile factory, part of Hojiwala Industries, in the Sachin industrial area, they said.
According to officials, firefighting equipment in the factory and the industrial area was initially used to control the blaze. However, when the flames continued to rise, the Surat fire brigade was informed around 11.30 am, they said.
The fire department issued a "major" call after the blaze spread quickly due to the presence of fabrics and nylon material, engulfing the entire factory, an official said.
Over a dozen fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Precautionary measures were taken to prevent it from spreading to nearby factories, he said.
The fire has been brought under control, and cooling operations are underway. There has been no report of any injury to anyone in the fire, he said.
While the cause of the blaze is yet to be determined, it has caused extensive damage to the factory, the official added.
