Marc Chagall's creation sold at Rs 12.6 crore at AstaGuru's online auction

Marc Chagall's `Couple Au Clair De Lune' or 'Couple In Moonlight,' fetched Rs 12.62 crore at AstaGuru's online auction, exceeding the auction house's expectation of Rs 8-12 crore.

AstaGuru recorded a white glove sale generating a total revenue of Rs 53.5 crore in an online auction last week featuring 16 paintings and four mixed media creations by global masters such as Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Salvador Dali and Fernando Botero.

White glove sale is a term used when every lot in an auction successfully sells. The auction was held on November 23-24.


Dali's 'L'oeil Fleuri,' an oil and tempera work spanning almost 13 feet, was sold at Rs 11.77 crore in sync with the estimated Rs 10-15 crore. Pablo Picasso's creation 'Tete De Faune,' executed with coloured wax and crayon on paper, was acquired at Rs 2.82 crore, exceeding expectation.

"This November's International Iconic auction continues to show the growing space for global art in India and for India in the global art market," said Larissa Guimaraes, AstaGuru's international art consultant.

Pierre-Auguste Renoir's portrait titled 'Etude Pour Le Portrait De Coco', was sold at Rs 2.33 crore.

The auction also presented a range of creations by globally renowned contemporary artists. Notable was a sculpture by Robert Indiana from his famous Love Series which was sold at Rs 4.24 crore. Takashi Murakami's 'Panda Cubs, Hoyoyo, Zzzzz' was sold at Rs 3.42 crore.
