The Thrissur unit of the Kerala State Small Industries Association (KSSIA) is building an industrial park in the district.

“This is the first such private industrial park initiative by a manufacturer body,” said K Bhavadasan, president of the KSSIA district unit. The industry body is investing Rs 10 crore on the facility.

The park will come up on a 14-acre plot in Velur panchayat. Already, KSSIA has shortlisted 13 investors for allotment of plots in the industrial estate. While the entire project is expected to take 18 months, the industry body plans to partly open it by March.

“While the park will have all the infrastructure, the allottees will build their manufacturing units according to their needs,” Bhavadasan said, adding that when the park is ready, it will employ about 300 people.

The project is in line with Kerala’s new policy which allows a private investor with a plot of 10 acres or more to set up own industrial park. The government also gives Rs 3 crore support for developing infrastructure.

Industries Minister P Rajeeve, who inaugurated the KSSIA project last month, had said in a recent chat with ET that the government had received 56 proposals from private investors, the minister said.
