'Manoj ji's films ignited national pride': PM Modi pays tribute to iconic actor-filmmaker
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to iconic actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar, who passed away at 87. Kumar, known for his patriotic films, left a lasting legacy and received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contributions to Indian cinema.

In a post on X, PM Modi said, "Deeply saddened by the passing of legendary actor and filmmaker Shri Manoj Kumar Ji. He was an icon of Indian cinema, who was particularly remembered for his patriotic zeal, which was also reflected in his films." He added that Kumar’s films evoked a strong sense of national pride and will continue to inspire generations.
Known as 'Bharat Kumar' for his string of patriotic hits like Shaheed, Upkar, and Purab Aur Paschim, Kumar passed away at a Mumbai hospital in the early hours of Friday. He was 87.
A recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Kumar also delivered memorable performances in films such as Do Badan, Haryali Aur Rasta, and Gumnam.
