Guwahati: In a fresh incident of violence in Chassad Village in Manipur one person were killed, and four others were injured when suspected militants fired upon them.

Kuki organisations alleged Seikhohao Haokip was killed in the NSCN-IM attack at Chassad Village. “What is baffling is that the attackers are freely using the Chassad Police Station for carrying out attacks on Kuki civilians. The incident took place while these people had gone to repair an electric line.”

Kuki organisations stated, “On Saturday afternoon in Chassad Village five civilian sustained bullet injury from the armed secessionist Tangkhul militants and this is a clear indication of wanton repression and choreographic policy to evict the entire Kuki-Zo community from Ukhrul district which is dominated by the kacha Tangkhuls”.

The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Sadar Hills Kangpokpi District, expressed its deepest anguish and strongest condemnation on the cowardice action of the armed Tangkhul led militants on innocent civilians including two Village Chiefs.

The injured victims include Thangjahou haokip, Chief of Chassad Village, Seipao Haokip, Chief of Phungtha (Kachouphung-Kuki) Village, St. Khailun Haokip and Thanggin Haokip respectively.

The committee stated, "The Committee wonders where those are elected legislators who championed accountability and higher moral character on the social media platforms or mainstream News channels but remains a sitting duck when misfortunes befall communities not of their own".

CoTU stated that in act, the incumbent legislators from Ukhrul, Kamjong, Noney and Tamei must reign in and control their armed secessionist militants, the NSCN-IM and the Mayanmar based Naga Eastern Flank both led by the Tangkhuls from distorting our aged relationship beyond repair. “Therefore, the current dispensation is beseech to deploy centre security forces to protect the minority villages, specifically Chassad in Ukhrul before any idea of retribution from the repressed community."

Kuki organisations stated that immediate intervention by state security forces is urgently needed to protect civilians and prevent further escalation. The authorities must act swiftly to ensure the safety and security of the villagers. The injured have been taken for treatment in the nearby Army Camp in Chassad.

Recently Manipur’s three hill districts of Kamjong, Ukhrul and Kangpokpi as the death toll in a fresh round of clashes involving the Naga and Kuki communities rose to nine.

The fresh killings were reported in Kamjong, Ukhrul and Kangpokpi districts on Friday and Saturday last week making the latest outbreak one of the deadliest episodes of violence in Manipur this year.
