Two more deaths were reported from ethnic strife torn Manipur. Body of an ex-serviceman in the Army was found in Sekmai while a lady died of splinter injuries in a bomb attack in Kangpokpi District.

Police sources said that a man identified as Limlal Mate Lalboi Mate from Sharon Veng, Motbung in Kangpokpi district was found beaten to death in Sekmai a Meitei area. He was an ex-serviceman in the Army. The former Indian Army soldier was killed after he accidentally crossed the “buffer zone” between the Meitei and Kuki areas in ethnic violence-hit Manipur late on Sunday night.”

Sources added the former Havaldar in the Assam Regiment, Mate was driving a car. Police recovered his body on Monday. It looks like he was beaten to death.


One lady, namely Nengjakhol Haokip Thangbuh village was killed during the attack due to splinter injuries in a bomb attack in the village. Police sources added, “On Sunday one Kuki village, Thangbuh was partially burnt down in Kangpokpi. The village is in the foothills near Bishnupur town in the valley. CRPF troops guarding the village retaliated against the militants. Before attacking the village, the electricity line was switched off in the entire area including adjacent villages such as Bungte Chiru.”.
