Taking a hard stand amidst ongoing turmoil in Manipur, Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Monday issued a stern warning to the perpetrators of violence in the state and asserted that they will have to face the consequences.

While in conversation with the press, the CM reacted to the latest incident of firing, in which an Army soldier was shot by unidentified men in an unprovoked firing case in Imphal West district on Sunday night.

"Stop it (violence). Otherwise, they will face the consequences. I also appeal to the people... Meitei people who are with arms ... not to attack anything and maintain peace so that we can restore normalcy in the state," PTI reported, quoting CM Singh as saying.

Since the beginning of ethnic violence between Meitei and Kuki community people in Manipur, more than 100 people have lost their lives, and thousands have fled the state after their houses were set on fire.

Meanwhile, the Centre has already deployed army and paramilitary forces to restore calm in the northeastern state.
