Guwahati: Security forces in Manipur arrested seven militants, including two women, from different districts and recovered some arms and ammunition since Saturday evening.

A police official said the militants belonging to the outlawed United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak were arrested from Imphal West, Imphal East and Bishnupur districts.

Security forces arrested two active female cadres of the UNLF (Koireng faction) from the Moirangkampu Sajeb Makha Leikai area in Imphal East district.


The Manipur Police arrested a drug dealer, identified as Baseimayum Yaibi, from the Porompat Pangal Leirak area, also in Imphal East. Heroin, concealed in seven soap cases and estimated to be worth Rs 16 lakh, was seized from his possession.

Security forces, both central and state, are carrying out intelligence-based combing, cordon and search operations in different Imphal valley and hill districts to arrest people involved in extortion and criminal activities.

They recovered some arms and ammunition from the Kakching district. These included rifles, including a self-loading rifle, a locally made pistol and a hand grenade without the detonator.
