Manipur police ask SPs to set up social media cells to monitor unlawful contents

Manipur police has asked the Superintendent of police to set up social media cells and monitor unlawful contents that could have detrimental effects on law and order.

Manipur police issued an order on July 15 and dispatched to all the district Superintendents of Police(SP). The Additional DGP Manipur (Intelligence) asked members to "continuously minitor all posts/uploads/comments posted in all dialects of Manipur" and submit a fortnightly report on the findings to him.

For social media posts criticising the government several activist and journalists were sent to jail.
