Guwahati: The Manipur government proposes to introduce a "no-work, no-pay" rule for its employees who have not been attending office without authorised leave due to various reasons because of the ethnic violence which broke out in the state since May 3. This circular has however been vociferously opposed by Kuki associations which have alleged that this only exposed the "communal Manipur government's constant piecemeal ploy" to achieve "forced peace" through "terror tactics".

A circular issued by the General Administration Department (GAD) has asked all the administrative secretaries to furnish details of employees who are not able to attend their official work due to the prevailing situation in the state.

Michael Achom, secretary general, administration department, stated, "All administrative secretaries are requested to furnish details of those employees who could not attend their official duty due to the prevailing situation in the state indicating the details of the employees such as designation, name, EIN, present address, to the general administrative department latest by June 28 for taking up appropriate action".

LOCAL BODIES PROTEST

The Kuki Inpi Manipur, the apex body of the Kuki tribes, said it is against the Manipur government's 'No Work, No Pay' order alleging that it was part of the government's ploy to achieve "forced peace" through "terror tactics".
