Guwahati: Fresh violence erupted in Thingkhongjang village in Manipur's Kangpokpi district on Sunday when armed miscreants opened fire at the village that injured two persons, including a minor.

Kuki Inpi Manipur in a statement alleged that the attack was carried out by armed cadres of NSCN(IM) and its proxy ZUF-Kamson.

KIM alleged the attack occurred despite the presence of the 86 Battalion's F Company. It said civilian houses were deliberately set on fire and that women and children were targeted during the attack. Both the injured - Nengneichong Kipgen (56) and Lamneingah Kipgen (8) - were referred to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal, for specialised treatment. KIM said the district administration had repeatedly assured villagers of their safety.
