Manipur: MBBS students stage protest after being debarred from appearing in exam

The 27 MBBS displaced tribal students have filled up their examination forms, admit cards and deposit their examination fees besides submitting copies for payment of fees through the deputy commissioner (DC) Churachandpur.

Guwahati: Phase-1 MBBS students with 27 displaced and another 6 non displaced students' of the Churachandpur Medical College (CMC) protested as they are debarred from appearing in their first year examination which commences on Tuesday.

The 27 MBBS displaced tribal students have filled up their examination forms, admit cards and deposit their examination fees besides submitting copies for payment of fees through the deputy commissioner (DC) Churachandpur.

They were informed that their admit cards and other examination materials were sent only to 6 (six) MBBS students and rest of the displaced students' were excluded .The students feel hurt because their fellow displaced students from Churachandpur Medical College were allowed to continue their studies at JNIMS centre uninterrupted but no such arrangement were made.


The emergency shutdown for 48 hours following the killing of Kuki-Zo in an ambush on Monday in Manipur's Kangpokpi district witnessed stringent enforcement in the whole of Kangpokpi.

The emergency total shutdown imposed by the top Kuki-Zo tribal body, the Committee on Tribal Unity, Sadar Hills Kangpokpi will culminate at 6:00 p.m. on November 22.

Volunteers were seen along National Highway 2 strictly enforcing the total shutdown. They strictly scrutinized the documents of exempted services and allowed them to pass if found genuine. All shops and business establishments remained closed while educational institutions were also shut during the total shutdown.

Similarly, blocking of National Highway 2 was seen at various locations in the Kangpokpi district till Gamgiphai.

The CoTU while imposing the 48-hour emergency total shutdown in the whole of Kangpokpi sought the intervention of the Central Government and handed over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
