Manipur Landslide: Woman and infant die following a landslide in Manipur

A woman and her infant son died following a landslide triggered by heavy rain in Manipur’s Tamenglong district.

A Police official said that the incident took place at Dimthanlong village and police constable Ringsinlung Kahmei was also injured after his house was swept away in the landslide.The injured police constable has been shifted to a hospital in Imphal for medical treatment where his health condition is stated to be critical.

Many districts of Manipur have recorded heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours. Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh stated in X, “Deeply saddened to learn about the tragic loss of a mother and her child due to the landslide that occurred last night in Dimthanlong village, Tamenglong Ward No. 3. My heart goes out to the bereaved family. Our thoughts are with Ringsinlung Kahmei, who has been critically injured in this incident. We are taking immediate steps to ensure he receives the necessary medical attention and advanced care”.


The mortal remains of the mother-son duo were taken to Tabanglong village for performing the last rites on Tuesday.
