Chairing a review meeting held at the Conference Hall of Raj Bhavan, Imphal, Governor reviewed the overall progress of the construction works along the border.
Senior BRO officers, including the Addl. DG Border Roads (East) and the CO of 25 BRTF, briefed the Governor on the progress of the fencing, key operational issues, and the overall performance of the project. They also flagged concerns related to security and communication and put forward recommendations to ensure faster and smoother execution of the remaining works.
Governor appreciated the progress made so far and conveyed that necessary support will be extended by the government to address the concerns raised by the BRO. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary, DGP, Addl. Chief Secretary, Commissioners and senior officers from the BRO and Assam Rifles. Deputy Commissioners of border districts were also present.
Manipur shares 398 km of international border with Myanmar. Sources said," BRO has commenced work on erecting the border fencing along the India-Myanmar border in the general area of Moreh in the Tengnoupal district. The work is undertaken by Project Sewak.”
Sources said presently only 10 km of international border with Myanmar is fenced near Moreh in Manipur.
The 1,643 km porous India-Myanmar border will be fenced at a cost of Rs 31,000 crore.
