Mizoram CM Zoramthanga on Tuesday said that Manipur’s ethnic violence since May 3 has deeply aggrieved the entire Mizo society and has caused intense pain to the nation as well.

After hoisting the Tricolour in Aizawl, the CM said his government has kept a close watch on the situation in Manipur and taken steps for safety and security of Mizos, especially students, stranded in Imphal. Zoramthanga said the state government took relief and rehabilitation measures for the internally displaced people from Manipur who sought shelter in Mizoram.

He said the state government spent over `36 lakh to airlift and evacuate 264 residents of Mizoram. About 12,500 displaced people from Manipur arrived in Mizoram till July 18 and camps had been set up to accommodate them, he said.
