Manipur authorities recover weapons and explosives: 990 arms, 11,500 ammo laid down

After Manipur governor Ajay Bhalla call for surrender of looted weapons, a total of 990 arms, 11,526 ammunition, 366 grenades, 230 crude bombs and 10 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) have been deposited with the authorities and police, according to an official data. (See Gfx). The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) along with local authorities dismantled a militant bunker in Kangpokpi, added officials.

On Thursday, Manipur police said movement of 226 vehicles carrying essential items along NH-37 has been ensured. "Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and a security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles. A total of 109 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley. No one was detained by police in connection with violation in different districts of the state," Manipur police said on X.

Official sources said, "There are several Kaccha roads linking Churachandpur to neighbouring Mizoram. There are roads between Churachandpur and Myanmar. Myanmar shares a border with Churachandpur." During the violence, Kuki leaders and people often travelled to Mizoram as they could not come to Imphal owing to hostilities between the two communities. Even during the funerals, leaders from Mizoram organisations often used to visit Manipur districts.
