Manipur CM Y Khemchand Singh’s Luangkao visit opposed by Naga tribal body over killings of 6 Liangmai brothers

Guwahati: The Working Committee, Joint Tribes Council Manipur (WC-JTCM), took strongest note of the proposed Maiden Visit & Pilgrimage of the Chief Minister of Manipur Y Khemchand Singh to Luangkao Village on 12th September including the Progress Review of the Rani Gaidinliu Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum.

The WC- JTCM stated, “We categorically and unequivocally state that the WC-JTCM does not approve of this visit at this juncture. Today marks 119 days since the abduction and brutal killing of our six Liangmai Naga brothers at Leilon Vaiphei village on 13th May 2026. Their mortal remains still lie unclaimed at the JNIMS morgue in Imphal. No arrests have been made. No investigation has been concluded. No justice has been delivered. The families of the deceased await closure, and the Naga people await Accountability”.

The body added, “Against this grave backdrop, any official programme or public relations exercise conducted in Naga areas whether to honour Rani Gaidinliu or review development projects while the blood of our six sons remains unacknowledged and unavenged is not merely inappropriate, but an insult to the Naga people and to the dead.


While we hold Rani Gaidinliu in the highest esteem as a legendary freedom fighter and founder of the Heraka faith, we demand, in the clearest terms, that the Government first deliver justice to the grieving families of the six slain Liangmai Naga brothers before undertaking any such visits, whether humanitarian, developmental, or political in nature. Justice first. Then everything else.

It added that Until these conditions are met, the WC-JTCM appeals to all Naga people, civil society organisations, and community leaders to abstain from participating in the said programme in any capacity whatsoever, and to boycott all official engagements that bypass the collective will of the Naga people.

“Furthermore, we call upon all Naga leaders, village authorities, and civil society organizations to refrain from meeting any Government officials whether for development projects, relief assistance, or political dialogue until the larger interests of all Naga communities are duly consulted and represented. No individual or group shall speak for the Nagas without the collective mandate of the people.

Let it be known that our silence is not for sale, and our patience is not without limit.

Meanwhile the government of Manipur has suspended Thangginlian Vaiphei police personnel for being allegedly involved in the abduction of the Naga people.

Ravikumar Singh Superintendent of Police Bishnupur in a order stated , “Now, I, the undersigned being the appointing authority, in exercise of the powers conferred upon me by Rule 66 of A.P. Manual Pt-ll, do hereby place C/No, 1809195 Thangginlian

Vaiphei of District Police, Bishnupur presently attached with Kangpokpi District under suspension with immediate effect. It is further ordered that during the period of suspension, his Headquarters shall be at the District Police Reserve Lines, Kangpokpi District and he shall not leave his Headquarters without prior permission from the undersigned.”

At least 50 people from the Kuki and Naga communities were held hostage by different armed groups in Kangpokpi and Senapati districts following the violent incidents of May 13, during which three church leaders were killed and four others injured in Kangpokpi district.

Around 30 individuals from both communities were released on May 14 and May 15 following sustained efforts by the authorities, community leaders, and several civil society organisations.

On June 10, the remaining 14 Kuki villagers were released and handed over to the police at a police station in Senapati district by the United Naga Council (UNC) and the Naga People's Organisation (NPO).

The following day (June 11), the bodies of six Naga hostages were recovered from a forested area near Kharam Vaiphei village, a predominantly Kuki-Zo tribal settlement under the Saitu-Gamphazol Sub-Division of Kangpokpi district.
