Manipur BJP chief files nomination papers for Rajya Sabha election
Guwahati: Manipur BJP chief Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi on Monday filed her nomination for the upcoming Rajya Sabha election from the state on Monday.

Devi submitted her nomination papers before the returning officer at the Manipur legislative assembly secretariat. She was accompanied by chief minister Y Khemchand Singh and home minister Govindas Konthoujam. Congress has decided not to field a candidate. Congress has only five MLAs in the 60-member assembly.

Ruling BJP has 36 MLAs, followed by National People's Party (6), Naga People's Front (5), Congress (5), Kuki People's Alliance (2), JDU (1) and independents (3). Both NPP and NPF are BJP allies in Manipur.
