In a statement the MLAs, stated, “It is hereby clarified that as per procedural requirement, the 10 (ten) Kuki-Zomi MLAs had to apply for leave from the assembly. The MLAs stated It is hereby reiterated that we stand together firmly on our demand for a separate administration and will continue to work with our people to achieve our political goal till the end. We appeal to our people to remain calm and continue to support us in our fight for achieving our common political goal. We appeal to our people to maintain calm.”
Kuki groups had earlier sought postponement of the session citing law and order situation. At least 160 people have been killed and several hundred injured since ethnic violence between the Meitei and Koki-Zo community broke out in the state on May 3, when a 'Tribal Solidarity March' was organised in the hill districts to protest against the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
