Manipur and Mizoram confirm presence of Delta variants of coronavirus in the states.

Manipur chief minister, N Biren Singh while speaking at a function in Imphal said, “Recently 20 samples were tested in Hyderabad based laboratory and around 18 samples were found of Delta variant. Spread of cases in Manipur is due to Delta variant”.

In Mizoram four cases of Delta variant (B.1.617.2) of Covid-19 were reported. A senior official in Mizoram who did not want to be named told ET,” Four cases of Delta variant are reported from Aizawl district.”


He said, “The samples were confirmed by the National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG) at Kalyani in West Bengal of Delta variant. We will have sent another 100 samples to NIBMG.”

On Saturday Manipur recorded 592 positive cases. Covid tally stands at 63,538, while the death toll stands at 1,039.

On Sunday 193 people tested positive. Mizoram has a case load of 16,943 and 81 deaths.
