Man threatens to kill self, loots Rs 40 lakh from UP bank

An armed masked man looted Rs 40 lakh from an Axis Bank branch in Shamli, Uttar Pradesh, threatening the manager and assistant with violence if the demanded cash was not provided. Police are investigating, and CCTV footage has been collected.

Muzaffarnagar: An armed man looted Rs 40 lakh from an Axis Bank branch in Shamli district, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday, news agency PTI reported quoting police officials on October 2.

Axis Bank Manager Naveen Jain reported that a masked man entered his office, pointed a gun at him, and demanded Rs 40 lakh. Jain stated, "A masked man entered my cabin took me at gunpoint and asked me to bring cash of Rs 40 lakh. He threatened to kill me if I failed to provide the cash." Jain then instructed his cashier Rohit to bring the requested money.

After receiving the cash, the robber escaped on his bike. The manager added that the man threatened to commit suicide or harm him if the money was not provided, claiming he needed the funds to repay a loan.


Superintendent of Police, Ram Sewvak Gautam Ramsevak, confirmed that CCTV footage had been collected and that bank staff were being questioned. The investigation is ongoing.
