The victim, Sunil Kumar Prajapati, a vegetable vendor who supported his family in Bareilly, died on the spot in what his family described as a horrifying and painful death.
According to Circle Officer (City-III) Pankaj Srivastava, the incident occurred in the Baradari area of Bareilly. “The body was sent for a postmortem, and the autopsy confirmed the death was unnatural. It appears to be a case of negligence,” he told TOI.
Following an initial investigation on Friday, an FIR was filed under BNS Section 106 (causing death by negligence) at the Baradari police station against sanitation contractor Nayeem Shastri. "We are proceeding with legal action," the officer added.
In his complaint, Sunil's father, Girvar Singh Prajapati, stated that his son had been sleeping under a tree opposite a cemetery on Thursday when a municipal trolley dumped waste directly on him. “The workers left without checking. That location wasn’t even designated for dumping silt or garbage,” he said. “Later, we were devastated to find him buried under the waste. We rushed him to the hospital, but he had already died.”
A senior police official confirmed, as reported by TOI, that CCTV footage is being reviewed to determine whether the dumping was an act of negligence or done deliberately.
