The accused, Sameer Ranjan, was apprehended from Maheshi village under Sultanganj Police Station jurisdiction after a WhatsApp call containing the threat was traced back to the region.
The call was initially believed to have originated from a 71-year-old local resident, Mantu Chaudhary’s mobile number. However, police investigations revealed that Ranjan had used a virtual private network (VPN) to make the call from Chaudhary’s phone, reportedly to implicate him due to an ongoing property dispute between the two.
“A detailed technical analysis and questioning led us to Sameer Ranjan, who admitted to making the threat during interrogation,” said Bhagalpur police officials. A team had been formed promptly after the security agencies received the threat call on Thursday, the same day PM Modi arrived in Patna for his visit.
The Prime Minister’s two-day Bihar visit includes the launch of development projects worth over Rs 48,520 crore in Karakat, Rohtas district, and a public rally ahead of the state assembly elections later this year.
Further investigations into the case are underway as authorities tighten security during the PM’s engagements in Bihar.
