West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has termed the central government’s sudden decision to recall state chief secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay to Delhi with effect from Monday “political vendetta lacking basic courtesy”, as the acrimony between the state and the Centre continues unabated.

Banerjee on Saturday appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah to withdraw the recall letter and allow Bandyopadhyay to work for people of the state fighting the impacts of Yaas cyclone and the Covid-19 pandemic.

Bandyopadhyay, a 1987 batch officer, was due to retire on May 31.
