Mamata Banerjee inaugurates museum at state assembly

The museum spans in the area of 450 square metres area. The history of Bengal's culture will made known to today's generation.

West Bengal Chief minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated a museum at the Assembly House on Monday. The rich cultural heritage and history of Bengal, role of Bengal in the freedom movement and freedom fighters, Bengal's renaissance have been showcased in the new museum using models and photographs.

"The new museum is a must visit for people interested in the political history of our state," Speaker Biman Bandopadhyay said during the inauguration. The museum has been constructed by the National Council for Science Museum.

"It was Mamata Banerjee's dream to build this museum," the Speaker said. "The culture and political changes that had taken place in the state will be showcased by using models and photographs," people in know said.


The museum spans in the area of 450 square metres area. The history of Bengal's culture will made known to today's generation. "I have seen Gandhiji and Netaji Statues made in the museum. I have urged the Speaker to create statue of Rabindranath Tagore, Baba Saheb Ahmbedkar, Nazrul Islam in the museum," Banerjee said.

"The school children should be invited to the museum and they should visit the museum on Mondays. No fees should be charged from the college students also," Banerjee said.

The political changes which the state has undergone will be portrayed in the museum. The photographs of all the past speakers, chief ministers and governors will be found along with their life history at the museum. Bengal Assembly had played an important role in country’s democratic movement. The Assembly is a witness to many important legislations and history of the Bills, people in the know said.

Speaker Biman Bandyopadhyay and other senior MLAs and ministers, former Justice of Calcutta Court Girish Chandra Gupta were present at the function.

A new building has been constructed inside the Assembly campus to commemorate the 75th year of Indian Independence.
