West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced on Monady a salary hike for all medical staff in the state. The chief minister declared an increment of Rs 10,000 for all interns, house staff, Post-Graduate trainees, and Post-Doctoral trainees.

As part of the revised salary structure, Diploma-holding senior resident doctors will now receive Rs 80,000, up from Rs 65,000, while Post-Graduate senior resident doctors will earn Rs 85,000 instead of the earlier Rs 70,000. Additionally, Post-Doctorate senior doctors, who previously earned Rs 75,000, will now receive Rs 1 lakh.

"We previously increased the salaries of both senior and junior resident doctors, but a further revision is necessary. Therefore, we have decided to raise the salaries of senior resident doctors across all levels by Rs 15,000. As a result, Diploma-holding senior resident doctors will now receive Rs 80,000 instead of Rs 65,000, while Post-Graduate senior resident doctors will get Rs 85,000 instead of Rs 70,000," she said, addressing the 'Chikitsar Arek Naam Seva' event in Kolkata, West Bengal.

"Additionally, Post-Doctorate senior doctors, who currently earn Rs 75,000, will now receive Rs 1 lakh," she further said.

The event was organised by the State Level Grievance Redressal Committee of the Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of West Bengal. It involved many medical professionals from across the state who held a meeting with the Bengal CM who was also in attendance.

Earlier, BJP leader Dilip Ghosh had alleged that Banerjee was not taking any steps to address the concerns of junior doctors post the rape and murder of a junior doctor at the state-run RG Kar Hospital and Medical College.
