Muizzu expressed his delight at meeting Jaishankar and being a part of the official handover of water and sewerage projects on 28 Maldives islands in a post on X.
"I thank the Government of India, especially Prime Minister @narendramodi for always supporting the Maldives. Our enduring partnership continues to strengthen, bringing our nations closer through cooperation in security, development, and cultural exchange. Together, we build a brighter, more prosperous future for the region," he said, sharing some photographs of his meeting with Jaishankar.
Jaishankar wrote on X: "It is an honour to meet with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Sending best wishes from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Dedicated to strengthening the bond between India and the Maldives for the betterment of our people and the entire region."
Jaishankar also met Maldivian Defence Minister Ghassan Maumoon and discussed bilateral security cooperation and the "shared interest" in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
The ties between India and the Maldives came under strain since Muizzu, took charge in 2023.
Jaishankar's trip to the Maldives comes weeks after President Muizzu's visit to India in June to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government.
