UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath invoked Mahatma Gandhi at the inauguration of the Kashi Vishwanath Dham. The corridor was also sought to address the 'grief Gandhi had felt' when he visited the area a hundred years ago.

"It is our fortune that Baba Vishwanath Dham has also addressed a pain Mahatma Gandhi felt 100 years ago, after seeing the narrow lanes, the filth and congestion around the place. Many people would have acquired power using his name, but only Prime Minister Narendra Modi worked to realise his dream that Kashi acquires a grand form," Yogi said in his brief address at the inauguration.

A video presentation showcased at the inauguration said that in 1916, when Mahatma Gandhi was at the Kashi Vishwanath temple, he felt sad seeing the congested state of the temple premises that became more and more inconvenient to pray as encroachments kept on increasing. He had expressed his grief in an address at the Kashi Hindu University, now the Banaras Hindu University or the BHU.
