What sparked the violence in Nagpur?
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Archit Chandak, the unrest began due to miscommunication. “The situation is under control now. We have a strong police presence. To control the situation, the police used tear gas and deployed additional forces. Several vehicles were set on fire, but firefighters managed to douse the flames quickly. DCP Chandak himself sustained a minor leg injury during the violence.
Police urge people not to believe rumours

A large number of police personnel have been stationed in the area to prevent further disturbances.
Nagpur Police Commissioner: Situation now peaceful
Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravinder Singal confirmed that the violence has been brought under control.“The situation is peaceful right now. A photo was burned, which led to people gathering. They made a request, and we even took action regarding it,” he said.
He also assured that concerns had been addressed. “Some individuals came to my office to discuss the matter. They were informed that an FIR had been lodged based on the names they mentioned and that action would be taken accordingly.”
Section 144 in place to prevent further unrest in Nagpur
Providing details about the incident, Singal said, “The violence occurred around 8-8:30 pm. Two vehicles were torched, and there was some stone pelting. We are assessing the damage.”To maintain order, authorities have imposed Section 144 in the area. “We have enforced restrictions, and people have been advised not to step out unnecessarily or take the law into their own hands,” Singal stated.
