Maharashtra SIT to probe Disha Salian's death; Ruckus in Assembly; NCP's Patil Suspended

The Maharashtra assembly witnessed a brawl on Thursday after the state government announced that a special investigation team would probe celebrity manager Disha Salian's death. The ruckus saw NCP state chief Jayant Patil suspended from the House for saying "do not behave like a shameless person" during heated exchanges between MLAs, amid Opposition allegation that the Chair did not let them speak.

Raising Salian's death, BJP MLA Nitesh Rane alleged it was connected to Sushant Singh Rajput's death and Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray's 'role in the two cases' had to be probed. Ruling coalition MLAs of Shinde group and BJP supported Rane. The Opposition, however, said CBI had concluded, while investigating the SSR case, that Salian's death was an accident and there was no need for another probe. The exchanges led to a ruckus and adjournments.

Amid the noise, deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the SIT. "The case is being probed by the Mumbai Police. Those who have new evidence can furnish it and this would be probed by a SIT," he said. Opposition leader Ajit Pawar alleged the government was trying to divert attention and target opposition leaders. Fadnavis claimed "CBI when asked about the Salian case said it did not investigate the case."


Speaking to the media later, Thackeray said, "the government is simply trying to divert attention after we brought out the involvement of the CM in the plot scam."
