Maharashtra logs 2,946 new COVID cases, two deaths; active tally at 16,370

In a major cause of concern, out of the 16,370 active cases, Mumbai circle alone registered 10,889 infections. The city has seen 19,573 fatalities due to coronavirus so far.

Maharashtra on Sunday reported 2,946 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the number of active cases to 16,370. Besides, two COVID-19 deaths were also reported in the day, extending the number of total fatalities to 1,47,870, the health department said in a bulletin.

Meanwhile, 1,432 patients also recovered from the coronavirus on Sunday, taking the tally of recoveries to 77,46,337. Currently, the recovery rate in the state stands at 97.92%. The case fatality rate in the state is 1.86 %.

The Mumbai circle, consists of MCGM, Thane, TMC, Navi Mumbai, KDMC, Ulhasnagar MC, Bhivandi Nijampur MC, Mira Bhayandar MC, Palghar, Vasai Virar MC, Raigad, Panvel

Thane is the second-worst hit city in Maharashtra with 2,805 active cases, followed by 1,128 in Pune, 530 in Raigad, and 446 in Palghar.

A total of 42,922 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, taking the number of samples conducted so far in the state to 8,13,21,768, the bulletin said.

On Saturday, the state had recorded 2,922 COVID-19 cases and one fatality.
