Maharashtra recorded 24 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally in the latest round of outbreak to 2,449, while no fresh death linked to the viral infection was reported in the state, the health department said on Thursday.

Of the new cases, seven were registered in Mumbai, followed by civic limits of Pune (6), Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (3), Pimpri-Chinchwad, Panvel, Nagpur, Navi Mumbai (1 each), and districts of Satara (2), Raigad and Kolhapur (1 each), a department statement said.

The department said it has conducted 27,963 COVID-19 tests across the state since January 1 and 2,225 patients who were diagnosed with the infection have recovered so far.


Mumbai has reported 980 cases so far this year, including 539 in June, it said.

A total of 36 patients have succumbed to the virus in the state since January 1, of whom 35 had comorbidities (pre-existing health conditions that can increase the risk of severe illness), the statement added.
