Maharashtra government eases Covid curbs; cinemas, restaurants can operate at 100% capacity

In a sign of improving coronavius condition, the Maharashtra government today further relaxed restrictions- allowing restaurants, cinema halls and theatres to function at 100% capacity in 14 districts including Mumbai.

Swimming pools, religious places, entertainment parks will be allowed to function with 100% capacity in all the 14 districts including Mumbai, read the official readout.

The Union Home Ministry on Friday asked states and union territories to consider relaxing Covid curbs for social, sports, entertainment, academic and religious events as well as night curfew hours in view of the substantial decline in the number of cases.


In the guidelines, sent to chief secretaries of all states and UTs, the home secretary also emphasised that the wearing of masks, maintaining social distancing, hand hygiene and ventilation in closed spaces, as mandated in the National Directives for COVID Management, should continue to be enforced.

India logged 7,554 new coronavirus infections, taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,29,38,599, while the active cases dipped to 85,680, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday.
