The SIT will be headed by DIG Nasik and officers from district administration. The police will also be a part of the team. It will investigate and give reports with measures to curb the problem, said a statement by Maharashtra Home Department.
On January 2, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya had alleged that around 1,000 from Malegaon misrepresented themselves as Bangladeshi Rohingyas to obtain birth certificates. “The Nashik Collector and Nashik Municipal Corporation have started a full review of the matter,” he further added.
He had said, "I have found that a scam was carried out where around 1,000 people from Malegaon misrepresented themselves as Bangladeshi Rohingyas, met with the Tehsildar and obtained birth certificates. Now, the Nashik Collector and Nashik Municipal Corporation have started a full review of the matter."
