Madhya Pradesh: IAF to deploy 2 helicopters for relief operations in flood-hit Vidisha

In order to cope with the flood-like situation in Madhya Pradesh, the Indian Air Force will deploy two helicopters for relief operations in the Vidisha district, officials told PTI on Tuesday.

Several parts of Madhya Pradesh received heavy rainfall causing disruptions in power supply in Bhopal and other places. The power supply was restored after more than 24 hours in Bhopal.

The state capital witnessed tree falls and traffic snarls over the last couple of days due to heavy downpours and strong winds blowing at up to 40 km per hour, officials said.


In order to restore the power supply in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh central zone power distribution company called in its workers from neighbouring districts for restoration work, an official said.

Schools in some districts remained closed for the second day on Tuesday, officials said.

In the 24-hour period till 8.30 am on Tuesday, Bhopal received 171.7 mm of rainfall, while Berasia town of Bhopal district received 209 mm, an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.

The Meteorological Department has also issued a red alert warning of extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in the districts of Ujjain, Indore divisions, and Rajgarh district till Tuesday. In Anuppur, the road of village Tulra-Sarai-Karpa access road of Pushprajgarh collapsed about 20 meters. The NHAI road connecting Shahdol-Pushparajgarh was closed due to landslides. This route connects with Chhattisgarh.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan reviewed the situation in the rain-affected districts again on Tuesday morning and directed the district administration and the police to speed up their rescue operations in the flooded areas and ensure that people are shifted to safer places.
