A woman was reportedly raped by eight men while on an outing with her husband in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district. The incident took place on Monday at a picnic spot in Gurh tehsil.

Rewa Superintendent of Police, Vivek Singh, said the police have detained seven persons, including the suspects. "We have detained seven persons, including the suspects who allegedly raped the woman. We are on the lookout for one more person," Singh stated.

Both the survivor and her husband are about 19, and were recently married. The victim is a college student, according to Rewa headquarters Deputy Superintendent of Police, Himali Pathak. The woman identified one of the attackers by the tattoos on his hand and chest.

The couple reported the crime at the Gurh police station on Tuesday afternoon. DSP Pathak shared, "The FSL staff (forensic science laboratory) and I rushed to the spot. The medical test of the survivor was conducted, and an FIR was registered the same day at 7 pm." The woman stated that five men raped her near a fountain, while her husband was held hostage at a distance.

The accused also recorded a video of the crime, the DSP said. The case is being handled sensitively to protect the survivor's identity, Pathak added.

The Congress party criticized the state government, alleging that the state is experiencing a "jungle raj." MP Congress chief Jitu Patwari claimed, "The incident did not come into the public domain for two days. Is this not the jungle raj? The state home department has collapsed." Patwari suggested renaming the home department as the "jungle raj department," highlighting the reportedly high crime rate in Madhya Pradesh.
